✨ Meet Our Workshop Leader: Rebecca from Dragoncat Crafts
Rebecca’s journey into the world of fibre arts began at the age of ten with a skein of dollar store yarn, a cinnamon bun, and a moment of quiet magic shared with their grandmother. That summer afternoon sparked a lifelong love of knitting, creativity, and handcraft.
After studying in St. John’s, Newfoundland—a province steeped in fibre arts traditions—Rebecca launched Dragoncat Crafts, a fibre arts business that blends traditional techniques with modern design. Their work is deeply inspired by Newfoundland and Latin American textile heritage and reflects a passion for cosplay, gaming, and fantasy storytelling.
Rebecca is passionate about making fibre arts accessible and inclusive, offering workshops that welcome all skill levels and encourage creativity. Whether you’re picking up needles for the first time or building on your skills, Rebecca’s teaching style is approachable, fun, and rooted in the joy of making.
🧶 Workshop Description:
Discover the timeless art of shuttle tatting in this hands-on beginner workshop led by Rebecca of Dragoncat Crafts. Also known as frivolité, tatting is one of the oldest forms of lacemaking, traditionally used to craft durable lace for trims, doilies, and decorative accessories.
In this class, you’ll learn single-shuttle techniques using thick #3 gauge cotton thread. Techniques covered include:
-
Rings and chains
-
Picot joins
-
Single shuttle split rings
Once you’ve practiced the basics, you’ll move on to complete a beginner-level project using #20 thread. This adaptable design can be finished as earrings, a keychain, or a bookmark, with multiple thread colours to choose from.
No experience is required. Rebecca’s supportive, step-by-step instruction makes this workshop perfect for beginners or anyone curious about adding a historical textile skill to their crafting toolkit.
