Meet Your Instructor – Tracy Minnema
With over 30 years of experience in the fibre arts, Tracy Minnema is a passionate maker and educator who loves sharing her knowledge with others. Tracy’s background includes everything from knitting, crocheting, and quilting to sewing and needlework, along with hands-on experience in both the fashion industry and fibre arts education.
As the owner of A River of Yarn since 2015, she has built a strong community of yarn lovers while helping others grow their skills and creativity. Whether you’re new to colourwork or ready to try something fresh, Tracy is the perfect guide to help you explore Doodles and master two-colour knitting in this fun and approachable workshop.

In this engaging class, you’ll learn how to knit a custom cup cozy using modular Doodle motifs. This is the perfect opportunity for adventurous beginners to build confidence with two-colour knitting, chart reading, float management, and maintaining even tension. You’ll leave with a finished or nearly finished project and a brand-new skillset to take home.
🧶 What You’ll Learn:
Basics of stranded colourwork
How to read colourwork charts
Managing yarn floats and tension
Creating a one-of-a-kind cozy using your own motif layout
🧵 What to Bring:
DK, light worsted, or sport weight yarn (30–35 yards in total) in several colours
Your preferred needle type to meet gauge (short circulars, DPNs, Magic Loop, or Flexiflips)
Sharpened coloured pencils to plan your motif with yarn-matching shades
This class is ideal for knitters who are comfortable knitting and purling in the round. Bring your leftover yarns, advent minis, or favourite stash finds and turn them into something whimsical and practical.
