Ready to unlock the secret behind stunning colourwork knitting? Join us for our Mosaic Knitting Workshop at Muskoka Yarn & Fibrefest.
If you have ever admired The Shift pattern by Andrea Mowry but felt unsure about trying it, this workshop is the perfect starting point. Mosaic knitting looks intricate but is surprisingly simple once you know how to read the charts, and we will guide you through every step.
Mosaic knitting is a colourwork technique where two colours are used independently to create beautiful, detailed patterns. You work with just one colour at a time while following an easy-to-read chart, meaning there is no need to carry multiple strands across your work. It is a stress-free way to create complex-looking designs.
In this workshop, you will learn how to read Mosaic knitting charts while working in stockinette stitch. We will also discuss how to work Mosaic patterns in the round, giving you the confidence to apply these techniques to future projects. You will create a horizontal repeat design that is ideal for adding a charming touch to your knitting. At the end of the workshop, you will have a completed piece that can be used as a decorative dishcloth or trivet.
Please bring two 70-gram balls of contrasting coloured worsted weight cotton yarn such as Sugar ‘n Cream by Lily. You will also need 4.00mm or 4.50mm knitting needles, or a size that matches the gauge listed on your yarn’s ball band. Basic knitting and purling skills, the ability to slip stitches, and a general understanding of colourwork are recommended for participants.
This friendly and approachable session is designed for adventurous beginners and experienced knitters alike. Spaces are limited, so sign up today and join us in exploring the magic of Mosaic knitting.
All workshop sign ups also include free admission to Muskoka Yarn & Fibrefest.
